What is Hercules without Xena?

It's an odd question, considering the actual history of the shows and their characters. However, I've had something of a downer day today as I contemplated the future of this site. Despite the fact that Xena is a character that spun out of the Hercules universe (and a show that's nearly joined at the hip with The Legendary Journeys for its first three seasons) it has come to pass that she has completely eclipsed our hero.

Of course, this site is as much a tribute to the lasting fans as it is a way to rejuvenate the old ones and perhaps even bring a few new fans into the fold. Even so, as I look around the web, I can't help but wonder if trying to built a Hercules-centric community is a wasted effort? Are there a reasonable sum of people looking for such a community? I can't help but feel that regardless of what I do, the work I put into this thing will just fall through the cracks unless I anchor it to Xena somehow (which I really don't want to do...).

So I pose this question: Aside from anyone who happens to read this, do you personally think that a Hercules site could have a future without The Warrior Princess? Should I reduce the scope of my site to better reflect the overall appeal of the show, or forge ahead and make my own destiny (that's probably what Herc would have me do!)?

How about Xena fans? Do you still appreciate Hercules, and would you appreciate a website like I'm trying to build? While initially Hercules may have been responsible for Xena's turn to the light, I think even the writers eventually phased that out. Instead, they placed a stronger emphasis on Xena's past before Hercules and her relationship with Gabrielle as the driving factors behind her redemption. It's all very interesting actually, but I wonder if, like the writers, the Xenites have phased out Hercules. Discuss!

Extra tidbit: At the moment, my plans haven't changed at all. I doubt they ever will. Even if one person appreciates the work I've done, if I can make one new friend out of this, then it'll all be worth it. Consider this a point of friendly discussion.

I feel that a genuine Hercules fan would agree that this site would work without a Xena influence.

Hey gojifan31,

Thanks for stopping by! I agree with you, really it was just a day where the volume of work I needed to complete felt a bit overwhelming...

It's a situation where I thought building this site would be a nice small site, and the next thing I knew I was trying to build Rome in a day! A little bit at a time and I'll get there!
